Remember Armando Montelongo from A&E's Flip This House???

Last night I found myself with some time on my hands so I thought I would stop by the A&E's website http://www.aetv.com/flipthishouse/ and take a look at the Season 4 Premiere of Flip This House. While there, I clicked on "videos" and watched a few short clips of past episodes and it started me thinking...whatever happened to Armando Montelongo and his company? How are they weathering this market in San Antonio?

I pulled up another browser window and googled "armando montelongo"...one of the sites that came up was called "Flip This Lawsuit" http://www.flipthislawsuit.com/2007/04/16/anyone-purchased-armando-montelongos-real-estate-package/ this website immediately caught my eye and I went right to it. This website is dedicated to the discussion of Armando Montelongo, his Master Home Study Course and his series of Flip and Grow Rich Ebooks.

Much of what I read was really no surprise to me. It touched on several of the issues I already found irritating about the show, at the end of the show they never tell the public about all of the other associated costs that went into the deal, such as; holding costs, realtor commissions paid, taxes paid, settlement costs, etc. They leave the public believing that here is a guy who owns a company that was able to buy this house for $65,000 and low and behold after a quick cleanup, paint, new carpets, they turn around and sell it for $125k thus pocketing $60k in profits. The program never mentions how many days it took for that property to sell or, if it was able to sell at all...it may very well still be on the market!

The site comments go on to talk about how Armando claims that he has flipped over 1,000 homes. A figure that cannot be verified. It was interesting to read that others who had posted in that forum were able to verify with court documents that Armando and his wife Veronica had filed for divorce in 2003, and that he is currently in bankruptcy. According to what I read, he only earns $150 through disability per month. I guess he better start hawking those $997 Ebooks and CDs!!!

Very interesting. I always thought that he and his wife were acting too hard for a "reality" show. No surprise that they're divorced and he's now broke.

I recall they re-tooled Armando's show a bit after the fall of Sam Leccima and stopped making such claims about a thousand homes flipped. They also began showing some of the cost incurred, and would tell viewers if the home in fact failed to close and went back on market. It was always pretty clear he did sloppy fast repairs and went the absolute cheapest route each time. He never paid his worker properly. Aside from all that, he's an ass.

Jim & Michael: Thanks for stopping by to leave your comments!

I understand that they have a new company that they are featuring on the show CT Homes LLC from New Haven. I think their bosses name is Than Merrill. My favorite is still Richard from Trademark Properties...he seemed to be the most honest and credible guy that A&E has had on the show.

Here's a site where David Montelongo is trying to raise capital from investors with his wife Melina http://www.tribeworkshop.com

Richard and that whole crew from Trademark were class acts. They moved from A&E to TLC. Haven't seen any new shows lately. The last I saw, they were starting to expand their company and franchise off of the model. I'll have to do some research to see where they're at.

I am always a bit skeptical of the shows and the claims.  I recall there was one here in Atlanta and the flipper actually rented plants for the landscaping and they said the house sold at open house... it hadn't gone under contract in the MLS and showed as not having sold in tax records quite a while after it sold... and then it got foreclosed.

Maybe there should be a show about all the flippers who have not done so well.

Makes you wonder about that show now.  He is losing credibility.  I too am a fan of Trademark Properties over the Armando's.

I always had a problem with his ethics. The plot to everyone of his shows was to get in, cosmetically fix major issues at very little cost and stick it to his contractors. I didn't know there were so many foreclosures and pending lawsuits against him. What's that saying, "What goes around comes around."

Thank you.

As a retired lawyer, I find these to be defamation of character issues and despicable. With very little research, I found this gossip to be unfounded. There is no such bankruptcy, no foreclosures, and certainly no disability.  Since you have nothing better to do than browse the internet for negatives about other people, I know I wouldn't hire you as a realtor or buy from a seller you represent.

Posted by Mick almost 9 years ago

Take a look in the Bexlar County Court records and you will find a ton of cases Armondo is defending.  Interestingly he is in several of them as "counsel pro se" meaning he is representing himself and most of the others are handled by different lawyers.

Does it not seem odd to you that he can't seem to retain a single lawyer and that further he has to represent himself?

Overall,   I would say its a good thing you're retired otherwise some poor unsuspecting fool might actually pay for you to represent them.

I work for a real estate investment company in Kansas City.  Our primary business is flipping houses.  The thing that frustrates me about flip this house other than the additional cost you've mentioned is the houses themselves.  I can say that most experienced investors would be much pickier when it comes to choosing properties to flip.  Sure surprises happen.  But in my experience they are rare.  Things like foundation issues, roof leaks, and leaky basements are almost always known about in advance.  I don't see how some of the investors on this show make any money.  Nonetheless I wouldn't mind flip this house doing a show on our company.

Flip This House is fiction, folks. The only quality participants were from Trademark and sadly, they're long gone. Armando is the worst of the worst. He's a greedy snake in the grass with no itegrity. His flips are pure garbage and he & his wife have horrendous tastes. We're onto you, Montelongos.

Dear Keith,

Unfortunately I just found your blog, and after reading what you have posted in your website, it started me thinking this:

You are a realtor with a worldwide renowned real estate company. Let's say I use your services and due to any circumstances out of your control I go ballistic and begin thinking that you are a scam.  Then to harm you I create a website, ONLY to harm your reputation, your business, your career and anything else in the middle.  Lets say that I am so annoyed with whatever I think and believe is your fault, that I take time, effort, energy, and money and created a website to cause you damage. Would that be fair to you? Could this happen to you?

The reason I bring this up is because, you are a man, and it actually looks selfish, envious and low, that you too took valuable time, energy and efforts to bring this up against Mr. Armando Montelongo.  Maybe the person, who put that website up, was very dissatisfied with Armando's teaching, techniques and philosophy.  I had seen it before with other businesses.  Everyone in this blog could be also listening to the good things (if any right!) this guy has done.  But no, there is no space for the good things, just for the bad ones.  If he is getting divorce, that is not your problem either!!! Has Armando bring in his nose in your house to see how things are going?  Come on man!

The show it is what it is: A Show!!!! Now Mr. Montelongo is more than a business man, he is an entertainer, a show man.  That is putting money in his pocket!!! What do you expect, that A&E TV, show everything that goes on the show? That A&E TV tells the fans, the viewers all the negativities of the show? Would you be watching it if that was the case? Come on Keith, you are a grown up and you should understand at least the basics of show biz.

Stop trying to make other men ridicule and begin stepping up to the plate to do your best in life!

Ohhhh, by the way: At what time do they aired your show?

Desdi Bani..... VERY WELL SAID and WELL DONE!!

I think Armondo Montelongo is a trooper and a champ in his own way and quite frankly a business superhero and a rolemodell for more than the average one of us; real people who have or is experiencing hardship. He'd "image" indicates that you CAN turn from the poor "church rat" popper to the "Church Bank" IF you work hard and have a drive to MAKE those chnages in your life rather than looking for pitty and hand me downs.

Again, well said Desdi Bank

Keith.... you ought to be ashamed of yourself and quite frankly must be really boared. I think you can see the result of your NEGATIVE POLL... not very many thread becuase pople have choosen to see right through your. You simply loathe Armando Montelongo becuase of the wealth he has BUILT and you wish you had or did build. Perhaps if you put in as much time and enrgy and focus as you have done creating and entertaining this website of yours, just might reach his waist line but please..... don't punch below the belt.

oh... P.S. who are you and who knows you again? if it were not for a search on "Armondo Devorce" i would have NEVER known about you. Oooops did i say that out loud?......

Funny that I was just thinking this morning while flipping through the channels and coming across his show that there has to be more than meets the eye.  I guess there certainly is quite a bit that didn't make the cut for the show.

Posted by Amanda Simpson (Keller Williams Realty) about 7 years ago

I actually have had some dealings with the Montelongo family, and they are all crooks.  They do horrible work, and hide major structural problems.  The whole family is running a scam.  Remember 'The Money Pit'?  That's what you get when you buy from them.

Posted by Michelle over 6 years ago

A person called me today to help find foreclosures and short sales to flip, asked if I would help by running comps and sticking with them.  Explained that they were in the midst of a course buy Armando Montelongo, form the flip show.  I had never seen his but had trouble with most of those shows.

Turns out this person is only part way through his crash course in RE investing and already out at least $12,500 for their half of the investment.  They have to find a matching investor to continue on.  My instinct is that the person on the other end of my phone is in way over their head and about to get in even deeper.

I turned to the best resource that I know, Active Rain for some insight.   I will keep you updated on what I discover.

Dear Dateline,

I am attaching this informational link for your perusal....regarding the alleged fraud and theft that Armando Montelongo has been engaging in....

I think it would make a great investigative story.....you might also want to investigate the due diligence that certain networks do or, rather, fail to do with regard to the product they are putting out there....I guess there is no Roger Goodell or Bud Selig of Networks...

Please check the link and read some of the comments....do some research....and ask yourselfs...do you see what i/we see....a great story...and a good story....a chance to make a difference...and maybe right some wrongs along the way.....

Just thought I would repost this woman's comments from another blog spot, my fear that though whether his flip techniques work or not is not the issue.

The issue is that he seems to be selling a system that is user sensitive to many who are not and may never be up to the task.  He is also charging exorbitant fees and these people are not seeing a return for their money.  I spoke with someone that opened a credit card account to hand over $12,500.  She would be unable to complete the program until she or they could find a partner to contribute their half, or an additional $12,500.  If there are more such stories please post here or let me know.  I would like to alert the state attorney general, but I need more than second hand information.

I could find nothing to verify her story until I read this posted below:

Armando,

If this was you that made this comment above me, well then wait, because we are going to complain to the Attorney General in every state. How dare you take hard working peoples money. I paid you $27,000.00 and you are not holding up to your deal. What the heck is wrong with you. I really thought that you of all hispanic people wouldn’t take advantage of people. You talk about what goes around comes around and being honest. Well, I guess you are not a man of your word. Pretty Sad. If you think you are going to continue to take advantage of people, think again. My faith in Jesus will help all the people and me that you have taken advantage of. I am going to pray for you, that you change quick and become a man of your word and you stop taking advantage of people. I am sooooo heart broken for what you have done to me and others, but I know in my heart that God will see me through the loss you have taken from me and others. Veronica, shame on you too for allowing your husband to do this to people that just want to make a little money to help their families and others. I hope you redeem your self soon, because if you don’t, I will contact every state and file a complaint with the Attorney Generals Office. MSMBH

Personally, I think most of the folks here that left negative comments about Armando Montelongo (note correct spelling of his name) are nothing more than jealous, lazy, lying peices of fecal matter.  I have invested over 30K in Armandos seminars and it is probably the best investment I've ever made ... and I have more than 6 yrs of college.  Most, if not all of the ney sayers go to a seminar and then sit on their asses and wait for the money to fall into their lap ...  it doesn't happne that way.  Armando gives everything necessary for a motivated person to definitely make a lot of money flipping houses.

I just want to say that Armando delivers what he says, he is the real deal, and he has changed my life and that of my family in more ways then I could have even imagined.

Don't l;isten to all the bullshirt!  :-)

I have been fighting this man and his money stealing machine for over 9 months now.  He made alot of promises and took alot of money and gave absolutely nothing in return.  I sent in the form to recind the transaction withing 3 days and they say they never got it.  What legitimate business will not refund the money of a customer after they have asked for a refund?  If they don't, they are not a real business and they are only there to take unsuspecting and trusting peoples money.  One pharase comes to mind when I think of this man armando montelongo, Snake oil salesman.  I will keep posting this information until I get my money back.

I signed up for Armando's seminars yesterday January 19, 2011. This morning I realized what a big mistake I made. I called to cancel but got no response or call back for 2 hours. So I decided to drive to the nearest presentation and have them run my credit card and refund my money. As soon as I got their, at the hotel I got a call from someone in regards to the 3 day seminar. I told her what I was doing and she said their should be no problem and they can help me. I was immediately helped by Xenia she got on the phone with Lezlie and then i spoke to a supervisor Melinda, and I was told they could not run my card. I was told it can only be done on the same day and from the same presentation "group". I was prepared to drive to the same "group" as the day before but she assured me they cannot do it...makes no sense to me why they cannot. I was asked to Fax a letter stating why I wanted to cancel, signed and dated. Xenon took my seminar material. I immediately went to the UPS store in the hotel and faxed the letter. Then I called Melinda to confirm she got it. I also talked to someone named Karla who said she would now pass it onto the refund department and I would receive my refund in 10 to 14 days. I am not feeling very confidant about this, tomorrow is the 3rd day. I asked for confirmation of my refund which I still have not received in my email. Any advice? Has anyone been able to have them refund on the spot? I would drive to another location tomorrow if I new I could force them to refund my money. I know how incredibly stupid this was. thanks

After watching A & E's "Flip this House" this morning, showcasing Armando and his beautiful red haired wife, I was left totally unimpressed with his house repairing skills.

I was a commercial/residential carpenter for most of my adult life, I'm 70 now, and I've never seen a worse example of how not to do something.

Heaven help the people that purchase one of his shoddy made over homes.

I don't doubt that this man isn't all he represents but I WILL say this.In Michigan we have lenders selling REO properties for under $20,000 that are able to be just cleaned up and MAYBE painted(some don't even need THAT much work) and they can be turned around and sold for 3 times as much or 4 times if the investor wants to hold on to it for a bit.The reason they're being sold SO low and SO fast is that these lenders have gotten themselves into trouble over their foreclosure methods and are dumping properties as fast as they can before the government actully wakes up and stops foreclosures entirely until the lenders have their "docs" in order. If Armondo has any ideas to help people access money...THAT might be worth their time to take his class.Otherwise..sit down with some of your really SMART friends and do your own brainstorming...but don't miss this market entirely.I've been in Michigan Real Estate for over 40 years and I have seen the cycles before.NEVER has there been such an extensive down market as this one..nor has it EVER lasted as long as this one is expected to.Investment in these properties will pay you better over the long term that having your money in a 401k where you have probably seen your money disappearing for the last few years.Pull it out and make some smart investments and THEN put it back into the 401k when the market readjusts.Just a suggestion..not trying to sell anyone ANYTHING!

My problem now is investers?  any suggestions?

I remember the first time I saw the show.  I was transfixed and amazed that anyone could have his personality.  I laughed when things wouldn't go his way.  My favorite show was "Cat House".  OMG was that hilarious!!!  I knew it was only entertainment.  Seeing the previous comments about his infomercials, I think it will only be a matter of time before he gets indicted for fraud.  Look at Don Lapre.  41 counts so far.  Maybe they can share a cell.

I purchased Armandos Flip and Grow Rich System which clearly had one purpose and that was to sell me his mentoring program.  This program was $3100.00  which I've been paying in monthly installments.  Right away I was contacted by his people telling me that I needed to incorporate in order to get the money to invest . I was led to believe that Armando started investing with nothing and later found out that he borrowed 10,000.00 from a family member to do his first deal.  Anyway I didn't have 2,000.00 to pay their lawyers to incorporate so my "investing" hit a wall at that point. Their never was any mentoring just someone asking me for money at every turn.  Armando has hurt me and my family financially not helped as he claims to do.  Now his people are threatening to ruin my credit if I don't continue to pay for nothing received.  Needless to say I can't afford a lawyer or I would fight his.

I have always felt uncomfortable about the way Montelongo seems to cut corners and short change his subcontractors - not to mention how rude and nasty he treats everyone.

I love to watch the shows about flipping houses, but avoid the ones with him because he just upsets me.  It's sad to hear about all the problems for his family (he had some small children if I recall correctly) and all the others who have lost money.

Wow.   And I just wanted to go to his seminar in Orlando tomorrow.  I am glad that I read this blog.  I am an investor and wanted to hear what else I could learn from him.  My advise to all of you who want to flip is this:   Find a good real estate agent, stay loyal to him or her, this is a must.    Explain to him or her what is your max budget for the purchase and repairs and let him or her find the right first house for you.   Make sure that you know from your realtor what is the market value for that house in a fixed up condition.  They can do a BPO, a computer generated appraiser arrived from the local multiple listing service sales comparison of similar properties in the same area.    You will need a good team of repair guys for interior repair for sure, as most of the foreclosed and short sale houses are in disrepair.  Try to buy homes that only need cosmetic, such as carpet, paint, new appliances, maybe a counter top, as you are still an infant in flipping.   Don't be greedy.  It is ok to make as little as $5,000.00 net profit on your first flip after deducting for all costs and fees, then do the next one again.   There is no such thing as making tons of money on any one flip, because other seasoned investors would buy that property before you can.   Go slowly and carefully.   Think of it this way.  If you put your money in the bank, you are making maybe 2%, in your 401K maybe 5%.   But if you can flip good, you can make 20% on one deal.    You don't need Armando, you need a good real estate agent to find the deal for you and to explain to you the local market and pricing, and the best part about this is, that it is free for you when you buy and only costs you when you sell.

Good luck, you can do it.

WOW!  Coming from first hand experience in attending a few real estate seminars the past few years, each one has something new that I have learned and worth every penny of it.  If you are willing to make an effort and not simply think you pay x-amount and assume you do not have to do any work, then yes - you got screwed and should have never paid or even shown up.  But if you make the effort and simply follow some basis guidelines, you will make money in real estate. I attended his 3-day seminar and a few other national seminars and even though his was one of the highest, I did learn some things.  It is always good to continue your education since new policies/criteria constantly changes that effect real estate purchases for investors.

I own over 20 investment properties and all incoming producing and purchased using some of their training ideas, so if you want it the easy way, don't pay for anything and stay drowning in your depth.  Make the plunge and through some blood, sweat and tears, reap the benefits when you start cash flowing and making the right decisions.  And yes, it is very true about using other people's money to pay for things as long as you know how to make it happen and that is one of the key items each one of the seminars hits on.

You need a strong support team: Realtor, contractor and family to make it happen!  (Fortunately for me, I am a Realtor, my wife owns and runs our contracting firm and we have a strong and supportive family).

So the bottom line is you get what you pay for as long as you know what to expect from yourself as well as thru your education.

well im still wondering what was his net worth before A&E. how much money did he make (profit) flipping. how much did he earn from A&E.  how much money is he now making from his seminar scam. i think these numbers will tell how A.M. made himself rich. i can almost predict that he will soon find himself roommates with berrnie. when he finds himself in don lapres shoes i dont think A.M. will accept his sentace (appeal to the very end) .

He never did it for me, reminds me of a self centered ego swell headed person in my life already. Couldn't stand to watch him without being forced so I didn't.

All you ppl whining about "Armando", sounds like another white person jealousy to me ... It was a show for ENTERTAINMENT PURPOSES you swine .. If you sent money into a person you seen on A&E of all places, you desrve to be a fool PERIOD!!! Armando Montelongo RULEZ, and it was his show that made me tune in every SATURDAY!

It's his brother David that filed for bankruptcy, not Armondo. He is actually doing just fine. He made 74,6 Mil last year alone and is ranked in the Top 100 of Forbes Fastest Growing Companies listing.

I've never heard the name Montelongo until A&E started showing re-runs of Flip This House lately. I don't think I've ever disliked a TV personality so intensely. He treats his contractors and his associates horribly.

He made his wife spray a beehive with Raid, and a caption on TV said "savings for professional bee-keeper: $300." After that, I had to google him to see if this was all for real, or just a put-on for his show. Well, it looks like Monte-wrongo is a 100% for real, jerk-wad douchebag. I cannot believe people got suckered into giving him money for business advice. I guess his name is mud now. Too bad, his ex-wife and kids seemed really sweet on the show, I hope they changed their last name.

Well, I also had watched the family Montelongo's Flip It show on A&E. Brothers Armondo & David along with their wives growing their Real Estate & Flip It business. So after not seeing any new shows for a few years, passing on his self promoting seminars on late night cable, lost interest in them. Alas to my surprise tonight on CBS/NY affiliate stationed showcased the Armondo Montelongo Company on Undercover Boss. He said he's still flipping houses, but I think it's more of him promoting his seminars & books. Yes, the show starts out them panning his mansion with a Ferrari, Escalade & many cars & SUV's parked in front. Then he introduces his very young (maybe 24 or 25 yr old blonde gf) along with his young executive staff. In the end I am still not convinced he is not a self promoter who cut his family loose. Yes, I agree, anything that seems to be to good to be true usually isn't. Looks like a duck, quacks like a duck, walks like a duck, is usually a duck!

Jersey girl, I'm watching the same episode on under cover boss right now. I'm NOT impressed with his arrogance. He keeps saying he's a multi, multi, multi millionaire....I wouldn't pay a dime to see his seminar with his attitude and the fact that he filed bankruptcy. It's a shame he has changed so much since his shows with his wife Veronica. My opinion, he looks redic and is very unbelievable. I hope Veronica is doing well for herself.

Never could stand him..too arrogant, narcissistic and self absorbed. The world was his oyster to screw over. The way he dicked around with his contractors was pathetic. His wife was way way too classy for him - glad to hear she dumped him!! As far as Armando: if it looks like trash, smells like trash, then it IS trash!!!! What goes around, comes around! Ha, ha on Armando! LOL!!!

I did not know that she in her former husband were divorced. I used to watch the show with great interest. Sorry to hear that former husband is on disability and bankrupt. Sad for him, but happy for Veronica.
